Holograph transcript of testimony given at investigation of claims for damages by U.S. troops passing through Chester District during Feb. 1865, including statement of damages by claimant, her loyalty to the Union, affidavits of various citizens, including testimony of former slaves and employees; discussing circumstances under which property was burned, and persecution suffered during entire war because of her loyalty; and noting decision of the Board that the U.S. government should reimburse DeGraffenreid in the amount of $33,730 for her losses.
